How We Test and Review Padel Gear

TL;DR: We do not claim to hands-on test every product on this site. For gear like rackets, our recommendations come from comparing published manufacturer specifications against independent biomechanics and injury research, cross-checking those specs across multiple UK retailers, and verifying current UK pricing on the date shown. Below is exactly how we source and verify what we publish, what we do not claim, and how we make money from the links on this site.

Our approach

• Specifications over marketing copy. For gear like rackets, we compare manufacturer-published specs — shape, weight, balance point, core material and surface material — rather than relying on brand claims or “power”/”control” marketing language.
• Evidence-based, not opinion-based. Recommendations are checked against published biomechanics and injury research (for example, on racket weight and balance as they relate to padel elbow), not just what a brand or listing claims.
• Cross-checked across sources. Where possible, we verify a spec (price, weight, core material) against more than one UK retailer or the manufacturer’s own listing before publishing it, rather than taking a single source at face value.
• Pricing verified on the date shown. We check current UK retail prices at the time of writing and note that date on the page, since prices move. A price you see may have changed since — always confirm at checkout.

What we actually check, spec by spec

When we recommend a racket, these are the specific data points we look up and the standard we hold each one to:

• Shape (round, teardrop or diamond) — taken from the manufacturer’s own listing, since this determines where the sweet spot sits and how forgiving the frame is.
• Weight — the manufacturer’s stated range in grams, checked against what injury research (see Sources, below) associates with higher or lower injury risk.
• Balance point — reported in millimetres from the handle where a retailer or manufacturer publishes an exact figure; otherwise we report the qualitative rating they give (low/head-light, medium, high/head-heavy) rather than inventing a number. If we could not verify balance at all, we say so instead of guessing.
• Core and surface material — soft EVA, entry foam, firm EVA, fibreglass or carbon, again from manufacturer or retailer spec sheets.
• UK price — checked against current listings from UK retailers (for example Decathlon UK, Racketworld UK, Tennis Planet UK and similar specialist padel retailers), not RRP or a non-UK price converted at a rough exchange rate.

Every comparison table on this site carries a “prices and specs checked” date and, where relevant, names the retailers we checked against. If a spec was not publicly available anywhere we looked, we leave it out rather than estimate it silently.

What we don’t do

• We don’t claim in-hand, on-court testing of every racket we compare — our TL;DR above says this plainly rather than implying hands-on review through photography or phrasing.
• We don’t accept payment from a brand in exchange for a favourable comparison or ranking placement.
• We don’t convert non-UK prices at a rough exchange rate and present them as UK pricing.

Where our data comes from

We cross-check pricing, court and club numbers against sources like the LTA, Playtomic’s public data, club websites, and official manufacturer specifications, and we note the date we last verified the figures on each page. For injury and biomechanics claims, we draw on peer-reviewed research such as scoping and systematic reviews of padel injury epidemiology, and we cite the specific study rather than a general claim of “studies show”.
